Nick Bratkovich: Music
The Children's Zoo CD-0705
(Nick Bratkovich)
1. Penguins on Parade
Ready, set, go! Let’s march around your living room like penguins at the South Pole. The rhythm and the melody are in the tradition of a John Phillip Sousa march. Wait for the whistle start high stepping. When you march especially good, the crowd will go wild with applause.
2. The Simian Swing
Did you ever wonder what it’s like to be a monkey in the jungle? This song might give you some ideas. It’s about monkeys and apes, also known as Simians, and all the crazy things they do. The music is written in the style of Texas Swing made famous by a Texan named Bob Wills.
3. Camel Caravan
You’re stuck in the middle of the Mongolian desert trying to get back home. That’s the idea behind this song, and it comes complete with Arabian music and sound effects that make it a lot of fun.
4. Barnyard Boogie
What do you get when you combine a farm with a hot musical number? You get a Barnyard Boogie. My deepest gratitude to all the cows, horses, ducks and goats that made it possible. And special thanks to our dog Maggie for her contribution to this project.
5. Wallaby Waltz
A wallaby is a fun-loving little animal that looks a lot like a kangaroo. Their biggest pleasure in life is to play and have a good time. When they hop around together they look like they’re dancing a waltz. Why don’t you try it for yourself and see how much fun it can be.
6. Hippo Hop
Can you imagine a hippopotamus dancing to hip hop music? I know it’s hard to believe, but that’s exactly what Moe the Hippo does in this song. Once you’ve heard what he has to say, I think you’ll agree that he’s the baddest dude there is alive, and that ain’t no jive.
7. Highland Heifers
Cows dancing a Highland fling? That’s right, and if you listen very closely you can hear the sound of their hoof beats. The next thing you know, you’ll be asking your Mama and Daddy for clogging lessons.
8. Armadillo Blues
The armadillo is a funny little animal from Texas that spends most of its time all alone and digging holes. Not a glamorous life but the only one they know. This is pure blues, man. Pure blues.
9. Baby’s Lullaby
Since this is an album for children, it seemed appropriate to include a lullaby. Be sure to remind your parents that you’ll soon be grown and they should hold you in their arms and tell you how much they love you every chance they get. By the way, the tiny little voice at the end of the song is our granddaughter Taylor, and she was my inspiration for the music and lyrics.
10. Piggy Polka
I had a ball recording this number, which was written and performed in the true Slovenian style. The sound effects, compliments of Porky and Petunia, were added for your listening and dancing pleasure.
11. The Eagle Flies Alone
Here’s my opportunity to honor the symbol of our great country and to offer an explanation of why America will always hold a special place in my heart. Don't be afraid to sing along with pride.
12. Zany Zebras
It starts out fast and it ends up faster, just like the zebras galloping across the African plain. But like all good things, this song and this album must come to an end. If you’re not too tired, start it over from the beginning.
